pop3 is enabled and running by default. just put your scalix server name in as a pop server and use your normal scalix username and password.

cheers,
Florian.

well, that depends on what client you're using... it should ask you for the server hostname.

well that means i have to go to www.gmx.net and fill the "serverhostname" in there?

well i think i don't understand what you are meaning ...

a Pop3 connector gets the e-mails from an E-Mailclient (like GMX) or isnt that correct?

i think im a little bit to stupid to make this connecter T_T

Don't worry Johiii,

what is your objective? Are you trying to get your gmx mail into scalix? Are you trying to get your scalix mail into an email program like thunderbird or outlook?

If you can tell us what you're trying to accomplish, I'm certain we can help you.

Hi Johiii,

hope you haven't given up yet.

Why don't you take a look at http://www.scalix.com/wiki/index.php?ti ... /Fetchmail - that should be just what you need to get that working.

If anything's unclear, let me know.

Cheers,

Chris

I'm glad there's some howto's but
where do you put your pop3 password from your isp in the following?
fetchmail -p pop3 -S yourserver.localdomain.com --smtpname your.name@localdomain.com -u youruser@provider.com popserver.provider.com

What is the --smtpname for? local or isp?
How do I find out what my scalix incoming and outgoing mail server names are?
Thanks

Sorry for the oversight. I've added a section on passwords to the howto.

the --smtpname is the rfc822 email address on your Scalix server to which you would like the email sent. The ISP just needs a user and password and give you the contents of that user's mailbox, regardless of the destination addresses of the emails. (This is important if you have local aliases at your isp, where for example salesteam@domain may be aliased to the sales@domain mailbox.)

I've just edited that bit of the howto to make it clearer - take another look and let me know if you get it.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris
one more problem.
it doesn't work...
I edited this file : /etc/crontab
yust put this comando line in the file
0/1 * * * * "/usr/bin/fetchmail -p pop3 -S scalix.pore.at --smtpname sxadmin-scalix@pore.at -u gruftengel@gmx.at pop.gmx.net >/dev/null 2>&1"
wich means Cron is using this comandoline every minute
is there anything else to do?
like restart cron!?
i allready tryed it but if i use this command: cron restart
there always comes an error
bash: cron: command not found

and passwort doesn't work either
because: when i use this, there shouldn't be an passwort request either
fetchmail -p pop3 -S scalix.pore.at --smtpname sxadmin-scalix@pore.at -u gruftengel@gmx.at pop.gmx.net

the file is in /~/.netrc it is : "chmod 400"
and the text in it is:
machine pop.gmx.net
login Gruftengel@gmx.at
password try-it-it-is-wrong

Hi Johiii,

you need to edit crontab using the command crontab -e - not just by hand.

At the beginnning you should have */1 not 0/1

If you did that, then change the end from >/dev/null 2>&1 to &>/var/log/cronlog

That way you can see the output of the command cron is running.

Does the command you posted work if you enter it as root?

Chris
