user lists migaration

Postby Supremesp » Tue Oct 03, 2006 8:07 pm

Hi,
Does anyone know how to extract the list of users, aliases and groups that i currently have on scalix to an ascii file. I need to reinstall scalix but want to save the configured data. Does anyone know a better way?

Thx for the help.

I guess I need to first understand why you need to reinstall scalix. What components do you need to reinstall. It is possible to uninstall/reinstall the software components while keeping your existing /var/opt/scalix, which is where your directory information and message store reside.

Otherwise you can get lists with

omshowu -m all

for a list of all users.

omsearch -e cn=* -v

gives a list of all users and their aliases. (A lot of other stuff to that you'd have to parse through.)

omshowpdl -l all

shows all pdl's.

omshowpdln -l pdl_name

shows users on the pdl.

thx for the quick repIly.

I need to reinstall the OS (redhat) as the /var only has about 300 Mb of storage. We have about 120 users and i need atleast 2 GB of space. I plan to save /var/opt/scalix and use this folder when i reinstall scalix on the new OS. I believe the installer has a option where i can ask it to use var/opt/scalix as the main directory. Will this work, or do i need to do anything else. I currently have 100 test users configured and don't wanna create their mailboxes again once i reinstall the OS and scalix.

Hope i'm on the right path.

Yes, you are on the right path.

If you put /var/opt/scalix and the newly installed os and run the scalix-installer, it will detect the message store and procede from there.

Do yourself a favor and keep the original host name.

thx,

yes i do plan to keep the same name, one more thing, during coping the /var/opt/scalix folder it was unable to copy the smtpd_socket under the /var/opt/scalix/temp directory. I have changed the ownership but to no use. Do I need to back it up or is there another way?

Here's what happened. I need to backup the /opt/scalix folder to a windows machine, using samba to transfer the files, however to do this i have to change the ownership of the files from root or scalix to me(superuser). When i upload these files again to the new system will this change of ownership cause problems or will scalix reset the ownership to default? There is no way I can keep track of all the different group and user ownership of all the files/folders under the /scalix directory.

Thx
Sup

Don't be concerned with /var/opt/scalix/temp or /var/opt/scalix/tmp.

Yes, file permissions are very important. After you've moved everything back you can run

omcheck -i -s > /tmp/omcheck ; sh /tmp/omcheck

and

omcheck -d -s > /tmp/omcheck ; sh /tmp/omcheck

to set permissions to their proper values.

thank you once again,

is there documentation about step by step backup and recovery procedure besides the forums? I love your product and we might buy the enterprice license once the initial testing is completed. The best part is UI that looks like outlook which everyone in my company want's.

user list migration

Postby Supremesp » Thu Oct 05, 2006 5:39 pm

Hi,

so i got the new OS, named the system same as before and moved all the files to /var/opt/scalix and than ran the installer, changed the permission as you said with omcheck keeps giving me the omon : [SYS 13] Permission denied error. Also scalix server starts but I cant use my sxadmin login neither can the users login to their account. When i try to restart the server using omshut it says all the services are already off, and I get the omon error when i try to use omrc.

i don't have any valuable data in the user boxes just the 120 or test accounts that i created.

I have them in a file that is formated in the below manner:

S=s
G=aneesh
OU1=mail
OU2=fiorano
CN=aneesh s
INTERNET-ADDR="aneesh s" <aneesh.s@fiorano.com>
ENTRY-TYPE=1
UL-AUTHID=aneesh.s@fiorano.com
UL-CAPS=6
UL-CLASS=Limited
UL-IL=AMERICAN
CNTRY=US
next entry.

can i just reinstall a fresh version of scalix and use some command to add these entries. Don't wanna use the UI to add all of them. I'm not too proficient with scripting so is there a way i can use omaddu to scan the file with the above user data and add the entries manually. I have also saved the entires in another format as below:

sxadmin /mail,fiorano/CN=sxadmin
sxqueryadmin /mail,fiorano/CN=sxqueryadmin

which one would be simpler to use with omaddu. Also i would appreciate if you can type the exact command to use.

thx
Sup
