Does Scalix use multiple remote/distributed/subdomains ?

Postby roydsm » Tue Oct 03, 2006 7:49 am

Hi,

It is just tow days passed i have installed Scalix CE 10.0.1.21, i hear and read that its one of the top/best email solutions avialable in the market, so i thought id give it a try to have it installed and see if it can help my 1200 odd users.

I have installed this CE on RHEL 4 without any errors i can log into the administration console create users/domains/groups etc, but my problem or i should rather say my lack of knowledge of this product has stopped me at a point where i cannot move ahead or cannot think of beyond.

We are a retail company and operate in over 13 countries as of now i have Merak mail server (which i want to get rid of if Scalix offers me some features) configured for each country with a different domain like for ex. Germany has a domain called xyz@domainger.com, India had a domain called abc@domainindia.com, Kuwait has a domain called pqr@domainkuw.com and hencforth. What want to achive is have emails servers in all the respective countires but to have one domain that would mean ex. Germany will have xyz@domain.com, India will have abc@domain.com, uwait wuld have pqr@domain.com.
So what i mean i want to have my Primary domain as mail.domain.com and my MX is pointing to mail.domain.com, and this domian.com has subdomain or distributed domains for ex domain.com (primary domain)
domainger.com(subdomain/distributed)
domainindia.com(subdomain/distributed)
if a mail comes for a person in domainindia then domain.com should internally deliver the mail to domainindia or to the domain the user where its exist

(have a look at the "Distributed Domain" part.)

I hope i was able to explain in a way that you guys have understood my situation.

If yes please let me know if there is a feature in Scalix that offers me this distributed domain feature.

Thank n Regards,

Hope I am reading your post correctly :)

I am going to assume the following:

User A has email addresses usera@domain.com and usera@domainindia.com
User B has email addresses userb@domain.com and userb@domainge.com

In this case, what you need to do is

1) Put a mailnode on each server
2) Set up the routing between different mailnodes on the different machines
3) Get dirsync running
4) On the India server, create a user User A with both email addresses, and create User B on the Germany server with both email addresses.
5) Configure your MX records to deliver all 3 domains (domain.com, domainge.com and domainindia.com) to the same server.

Scalix itself doesn't know (or care) about domains, it only handles email addresses. It knows which user is in which mailnode, and how to route mail to get to the right server.
