RCF 822 Error

Postby wmcdonald » Mon Oct 02, 2006 12:51 pm

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question, however, we are getting an increasing number of email getting error return messages. We are version 10.0.2 at the location.

The following message and my investigation tends to make be believe that Scalix is using an outdated standard (rfc 822) that defines class and AOL is rejecting it.

Anyone knows anything more about this and how to resolve it?

(xxxx was the receiving email address)

----------------------------- ERROR REPORT -----------------------------
Message could not be delivered to the following recipient:

xxxx17520 / internet
DDT1=RFC-822; DDV1=xxxx17520@aol.com;

because: Unknown Non-Delivery Reason (300)

AOL is probably rejecting the message because you are coming from a "dynamic" IP address pool.

I had to add a mailertable entry to /etc/mail/mailertable as follows

Code: Select all

aol.com         esmtp:[my.isp.relay]
and then run

Code: Select all

cd /etc/mail
make mailertable.db
service sendmail restart

I don't think so. Our MX record points to our Static IP of our Scalix server.

I put "dynamic" in quotes as, although an ISP will say they are giving you a static IP address, it's in a defined range that is for "home" use which AOL will automatically reject although having just tested this again, I got a 554 error.

Please can you check through /var/log/maillog and see if there are any errors logged there. Also, try reading the non-delivery through an IMAP client as this may give more information.

Thanks, I'll give your code a try. Just one question .... in the [my.isp.relay] ... what does this refer to?

Most ISPs have a host that you submit mail to. You need to use that name.
