Accumulating outgoing mail

Postby tomred » Mon Dec 12, 2011 10:10 am

Hi,

I had to re-number our LAN over the weekend and scalix hasn't been too happy since. The number of messages in the "Internet Mail Gateway" is creeping up all the time (currently 78) as is the number of items in the sendmail q (mailq). I can ask sendmail to reprocess the q with -v -q and see what happens but I cannot do the same with the Internet Mail Gateway..

I am trying to work out what the cause is but I don't know where to get any details or errors from scalix about the problem. Most of the messages in these logs refers to operations by users on there mail client

    -rw-rw---- 1 scalix scalix 0 Mar 26 2008 lock_log
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 scalix scalix 0 Mar 26 2008 lock_fatal
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 scalix scalix 0 Mar 26 2008 ftlvis.log
    -rw-r----- 1 root scalix 523 Mar 28 2008 migu.log
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 scalix scalix 14382 May 25 2011 daemon.stderr
    -rw-rw---- 1 scalix scalix 3413533 Dec 8 17:19 log.2
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root scalix 115 Dec 10 16:18 sxhostcfg.log
    -rw-rw---- 1 scalix scalix 3413656 Dec 10 16:50 log.1
    -rw-rw---- 1 scalix scalix 720036485 Dec 12 13:37 audit
    -rw-rw---- 1 scalix scalix 1317375 Dec 12 13:38 log.0
    -rw-rw---- 1 scalix scalix 1921968702 Dec 12 13:38 fatal

Is there somewhere I can watch what happens as scalix attempts to send an email?
Thanks,
Dermot

I found the source of "why" the queue was growing.

My sendmail config had more than one domain listed but my server is for a single domain. Once I edited the file in /etc/mail/ that defined my local domains and restricted it to the single domain that my Scalix was licensed to, email poured out of my Internet Mail Gateway queue.

What would have been really useful would have been some clue somewhere as to what was going on, some log information or warning. I found this configuration problem almost my accident.

Good luck all.
Dermot
