[OM 8913] X.1.3 Bad destination mailbox address syntax

Postby DagonSphere » Tue Nov 22, 2011 3:24 pm

Hi all,

I've been having an intermittent issue with sending email using Outlook 2002 and Scalix 11.4.3. This is an email my users receive:
From: MAIL-SYSTEM
Sent: Monday, November 21, 2011 3:50 PM
To: Email User
Subject: Returned mail: see transcript for details

----------------------------- ERROR REPORT ----------------------------- Message could not be delivered to the following recipient:

john.doe / internet
DDT1=RFC-822; DDV1=john.doe@example.com;

because: 'X.1.3 Bad destination mailbox address syntax' [OM 8913]
------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few things to note:
  1. Internal emails go through just fine. Internet bound emails (ie, different external domains) messages are giving me the trouble.
  2. This does not happen on every email. In fact, I can send seven identical emails, to the same email address, and two of them "bomb" and the rest go through.
  3. This happens when creating a new email, forwarding, or replying. There is no rhyme or reason.
  4. This happens on some users accounts, but not all.
  5. My server configuration is mostly stock, ie, I have not made modifications. I did attempt to use a smarthost, but switched back.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Also, Yahoo is our webhost. I've been through their tech support, to no avail.

I now know what the problem is (after multiple calls to our webhost provider :x ), and am currently searching for a solution.

Currently, Sendmail is configured to authenticate with the provider's SMTP server with one user account. All outgoing email gets sent through this account. Our provider is in the process of removing this ability, and forcing clients to authenticate with the user account that is sending the email (I completely understand why) When I get the bounce messages, I'm hitting an SMTP server with the new configuration, since their servers are dynamic to handle fluctuating work loads.

I need to (somehow) configure each user account to authenticate with it's own credentials on a single smart host. Apparently this cannot be done with multiple entries in /etc/mail/auth/client-info that gets compiled with makemap. I tried it, and when I run makemap, it give me a "duplicate key" error for each line. Here is a sample of that file:

Code: Select all

AuthInfo: smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com "U:aa@zz.com" "I:aa@zz.com" "P:secret"
AuthInfo: smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com "U:bb@zz.com" "I:bb@zz.com" "P:secret"
AuthInfo: smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com "U:cc@zz.com" "I:cc@zz.com" "P:secret"

I am searching for a way to configure this, if this is even possible.

Any ideas?

Thanks all!
