Tracking Area

I have a user with 23548 messages in the "Tracking Area". I saw this when I ran an omtidyu -MB to fix an imap issue. Does anyone know what the "Tracking Area" is?
Its just another example of the famous "OpenMail speech".
Tracking Area = Pending Tray = Sent Items
