help for a newbie

Hi,
I'd like to move out from win2k adv.server to RHEL4, currently we use win2k adv.exchange server. After a long considerations and research I decided to use scalix community edition. Our company has around 65 staff. Not all of them uses calendaring, so community version suits me fine.

Now, I have a sempron amd box with 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD.
I installed RHEL4) on that machine, scalix community version(scalix-core-intel-redhat-10.0.1) the IP for eth0 is 192.168.1.10 (internal), I have firewall in my LAN, so I opened the incoming 80 port and redirected to 80.

Now, when sending email I get this email bounce:

Code: Select all

Message could not be delivered to the following recipient:

    user2@otherdomain.com

because: A mail transport failure occurred

Supplementary Information:

553 5.1.8 <user1@mydomain.com>... Domain of sender address user1@mydomain.com does not exist

Basically, my idea is to come up with a server which will fetch mails from the mydomain.com email server and put it in the scalix users inboxes.

Please, clear me where I went wrong and what can I do.

thank you all,
Blackman

You should do a google search for "553 5.1.8" and you'll find a wealth of information regarding this error. In a nutshell, your domain (mydomain.com) can't be resolved by your server so sendmail is rejecting the message. You should either make sure your domain is correctly defined in DNS or you can just tell sendmail to disregard non-resolvable addresses. I won't go into a great deal of detail since the information is readily available via a google seach, but the bottom line is you can edit your /etc/mail/submit.mc and /etc/mail/sendmail.mc and comment out the "FEATURE(`accept_unresolvable_domains')dnl" line, then rebuild your submit.cf and sendmail.cf files from the mc files. Lastly, run omsendin to re-install the Scalix specific rules into your sendmail.cf file.

Thanks,
Rachel
