For anyone interested in migrating from Scalix to another platform, we are now running a 1 month free special for new clients during the months of Oct and Nov.

while i appreciate freedom of speech, I still (and that's personal opinion, completely independent of any engagement or affiliation with Scalix!) believe that some level of decency should be retained in one's public communications. I would dare to say that a line has been crossed here and I'll comment and react to that.

I didn't expect a promotional advertising like this on a Scalix-company owned forum from a long-time forum user, "Scalix Star" and else. I will therefore lock his account and remove the badge.

Independent of anyone's decision to select their email system at their leisure for one or the other reasons, I would also personally recommend not to use the service of someone for help with such a migration who exposes such behaviors; this is a matter of personal reliability, loyalty and associated values, and I firmly believe those are what you adhere to or not in a pretty binary fashion. If you generally don't, this will apply to other situations as well.

I certainly would not trust someone like this to host all or part of my email infrastructure, as, in particular with cloud services, required trust extends well beyond what can be written down in a simple contract.

While it might not be commendable behavior to use this forum to promote one's services I would rate his behavior and integrity way above that of the company whose product has been left to die without even someone having the balls or integrity to acknowledge that it's over.

As I have said numerous times, I don't have association with the management of Scalix or Xandros at this point and look at this purely from the perspective of conduct on the Scalix Community and forum.

The forum is hosted by Xandros/Scalix and the company is paying for maintaining it. Freedom of speech is generally respected, however there are limits because it is still not a completely public or independently operated place. Kevin has been given a "Scalix Star" badge by myself at some point in the past, representing the company and thanking him for his service to product, community, ourselves; he has decided to offer different kinds of services now, which is fine. It does put him in a different position with respect to the Scalix community, however.

No company would tolerate someone advertising product or services of competitors on their turf, i.e. putting up posters on the wall of a corporate building or similar; the same applies here. People using this and adding to the discussion are guests, and should generally be treated as such; differing opinions should be tolerated. There is, however, a line that a guest should not cross.

Talking about "death" here is inappropriate, IMHO, and even if I am not satisfied with the lack of progress for the Scalix product in many ways, the fact alone that this forum still exists is, to some extent, positive proof that your statement is factually incorrect.

I'd typically also appreciate that someone who offers strong opinions on subjects at least identifies himself in the public where he's doing that; I've always signed off stuff under my name. That may also be considered a matter of having balls or integrity, doesn't it?

This has been known to me for quite some time, and my comments were not directed at you in any way, but at the company behind Scalix.
The only criticism against you in my post would be that you hold Kevin by ethical standards that "even" Scalix doesn't meet

We're approaching 2 years without a release now, we still have no ActiveSync thats working well enough to actually use it without constantly encountering problems and 1 1/2 years after Outlook 2010 RTM there isn't even a hint on when it will be supported.

Everyone has to decide for him/herself whether something like that calls for "not satisfying" or "dead project" as an accurate description. This is certainly a point open to debate.

This however, is not a point open to debate. Because every other dead Xandros project also has working Forums (Xandros Linux: http://forums.xandros.com/, Xandros Presto: http://www.prestomypc.com/forums/).

Surely suggesting that those projects might receive any updated just because the forum is still up would be absolutely ridiculous.

And regarding to our new Sebring overlords: Considering that they've not managed to update the Scalix Website with a news bulletin that they've acquired the company almost three months after the aquisition... IMHO that means they either can't change anything including the forums (still searching for login/pass after 3 months?) or don't care (wonder what they paid the money for then) or aren't allowed to (maybe something went wrong buying Scalix and they're trying to back off).

Either of those options warrants calling the project "dead" in my opinion. Sebring had the option to restore confidence in the community after buying Scalix and deliberately chose not to do so. That alone should be telling.

Those remarks were never directed at you. They were directed at Scalix which has been hiding (= not saying anything) or lying (= promises on the phone about upcoming new releases).

Wow Florian, you locked his account, and because it is required that a user log in, in order to read the forum, he will never know what happened to his account. That is unfortunate, but I understand your position.

sebringsoft.com is not the Scalix Website. Xandros is still mentioned everywhere on scalix.com.

But of course you can also directly search on the Scalix Website for the official announcement regarding the aquisition on Scalix.com:


What you will find should not surprise anyone. The forum is the only thing still alive. The rest (of the Website) is dead. And I would take this (along with not even minor patches in 1 3/4 years) as a sign that everything behind the website ("the company", "the software development process") is dead too, unless proven otherwise. And nobody from Scalix/Sebring has even made the slightest effort to indicate otherwise.

I agree with you, it would seem to indicate the project is dead. It is frustrating to me that there has not been one single update or bug fix in a year and a half. We don't even know what Seabring will do with Scalix, or what they're doing with the property. I hate being a mushroom.
