Duplicate Mail Folders allowed?

Postby jlumpkins » Tue Jul 11, 2006 5:35 pm

I have a client that is using Scalix with Outlook as the Mail Client.
I have an application that interacts with Outlook through the Outlook object to get the data out of emails, parse them, and relocate them on the server based on the results of the parsing process.

It apprears that the Scalix server is allowing multiple folders with the same name to reside under a given subfolder. In other words, I can create as many copies of the folder 'Test' under the folder 'foo' without any problems. This would normally cause an error dialog to pop in Outlook.

Is this behavior by design? Is there an option to disallow duplicate folders? Normally, Outlook PST's , and using Outlook through MS Exchange Server would not allow duplicate folders.

Thanks in advance. (A Windows programmer with 3 Linux boxes at my house....)

It looks like this is by design going back to the Openmail days. I'm not sure what the use case was that caused this design decision. Currently there is not a way to disable this behaviour.

I will open this bug again and see what traction I get this time.

Thanks for the quick response!

Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for the rapid, and honest response!

I've updated the Inhaler to loop through looking for an existing foldername prior to creating a new one. So, we're good on this end. (Our client does have like a gazillion copies of bad, dupl, and imported folders under her resumes folder though... ;-)

Regards,
