I have a test setup running under Fedora Core 4 (Scalix CE). I've just ordered hardware for our new Scalix server, as soon as it arrives, we plan to install Fedora Core 4 on it, install Scalix CE and move our current Scalix Testers to the new server (only 3 testusers yet, because the system can't handle more).

If everything goes well, we would like to buy a license for Scalix EE, and start using it without reinstalling everything. Is it possible to run Scalix EE under Fedora Core 4, or should I go for Red Hat or Suse. (In that case, I'll build the new server with that).

For any Enterprise customer we would certainly recommend you go with an Enterprise server and given that you already have Redhat experience, RHEL3 or RHEL4 would be a good solid choice.

Thanks for your answer. I've installed RHEL3 on the server and I'm now busy with setting up the new scalix environment.

if your tight on budget I recommend using CentOS 4.3, its rock stable, just put bastille to harden it and you got a RHEL clone and dont forget to change the /etc/redhat-release

The main reason not to go with Fedora is the limited lifespan of one of their releases, so using Fedora also means frequent OS upgrades and keeping it in sync with Scalix versions and Fedora core support; RHEL is a lot more long-term stable and allows for more relaxed planning.

We don't officially support Centos, but as can be seen from the forum, it is known to work.
