Collaboration Features

Postby jonny » Fri Jul 07, 2006 11:10 am

Hello there!

I've been having fun comparing Scalix to the likes of Zimbra and Open Xchange (I'll be posting a full report of my findings on the internet shortly.) One of the features that I felt was lacking from Scalix was a basic Collaboration utility, most importantly, a Document Revision System.

Pretty much every company will work with numerous documents and it's handy to have them accesible all in the same place (and more to the point, current and up-to-date).

Does Scalix have any plans to incorperate a Doucment Revision System? It would be even nicer if this could be tied into the Outlook plugin so the latest versions of documents could be found in a shared folder (bb).

Thoughts?
Jonny.

Jonny,

this not something I have seen on a product requirement document, so I don't see this happening soon. Product management no doubt will add more information if there is more.

Let us know the results of your study.

Cheers,

Sascha.

Johnny,

to add to this - we don't have a plan on the roadmap as of today to include document revisioning ourselves. We believe that everyone should do what he can do best - there are a couple of good products iout in the market and what we're evaluating is how we can link up with them to eventually create a common solution through a combination of best-of-breed enterprise products.

HTH,
Florian.

We also have a customer interested in knowing what Scalix's offering is in the area of document management. Do you have any information on a possible partner for this area? I checked the Technology Partner area and nothing there yet on document management.

Cheers,
Judi

Hi Judy,

we don't have anything specific in place there; from my current perspective, I'd think you should be checking out Alfresco and maybe O3Spaces.org.

Cheers,

Scalix Comparison

Postby rredman » Fri Sep 15, 2006 1:48 am

As for comparison to Zimbra and Open Exchange:

Tried to install Open Exchange, but found it to be quite unstable, and the OXtender killed my outlook install. This may have been because I was using the demo version which boots linux off cd. Also could not work out how to store data on the server machine.

Edit: Removed Zimbra comment

Scalix has worked well in a test environment. the real test, however, will be when we migrate the data of 700+ users!
