Item Structure Server not running by default?

I did an install of the community editition. Today I was reading a bit through the administration manual to learn a bit more about the system. I found out about the "omstat -a" command, and when I did a run of this command, I saw that "Item Structure Server" has status "Stopped". This didn't sound good to me, so I browsed through the manual to find out about this server.

The Item Structure Server is used for repairing the Message Store in the event of corruption or system failure, and for restoring individual user’s Message Store data, with the Single User Restore utility.

Hmm, that sounds important to me! I went to the SAC, but I can't find this server there anywhere. I was able to start it using the omon command, but I was wondering why this server wasn't running by default?

ISS is only needed for a special kind of backup. It is of no importance to a CE user. Search the forum for more details. The short of it is, use omcpoutu / omcpinu on a regular basis for individual user backup and LVM based snaphots for total backup.

Cheers,

Sascha.

I don't suppose there's any news on the ISS front-end project Sascha?

None that I am aware of, this is the chance to become a Scalix superhero.

I'm not a developer, but I suspect as hard as producing the interface is actually understanding how use the damn thing in the first place. Maybe if users could share their experiences somewhere in the wiki that would be a positive start.
