Scalix and Asterisk Intergration

Hello There! I did a quick search before posting this, but couldn't find anything specific.

Are there any plans to integrate Scalix with Asterisk - the open source VOIP server software? If this is on the development roadmap, how far off is it, should I start holding my breath? ;)

Thanks
jonny.

No plans at present to work with Asterisk.

Was there anything in particular that you were thinking of ? UC or just LDAP access to the directory ?

Cheers

Dave

I used Asterisk@home and had no problem making them work together.

It's not integrated, but they work easily together.

Hi Johnny,

believe to give you some really good thoughts on this, could you describe us a bit more what kind of integration you're thinking of, i.e. what functionality you would want to see?

It's the beauty of Open Systems (and partially Open Source as well) that you can bring components together without the original inventors of the components even knowing; looking at Kevin's answer, this is a perfect example for it.

What's your exact "use case" for this?

Thx,
Florian.

Hi Florian,

In our case, quite simple really, I would just want Scalix Address book to be able to interface with Asterisk box so that calls can be initiated from the Outlook client.

I'm presuming this could be achieved through LDAP integration?

well.. i haven't used asterisk with a windows client, so i don't know about that outlook integration - is that an outlook plugin coming from a softphone app?

in that case i would assume that it only uses phone # information from contact records. the phone # field can be populated in scalix from either the SAC console directly or, when using ldap-based directory integration through a backend LDAP directory.

so this should be on the configuration level and not require anything from either our or the asterisk side.

cheers,
Florian.
