What are the security implications of having the default scalix port (5729) generally available on the Internet?

Hi,

not sure what you are asking here. Any box connected to the Internet is at risk at various levels. Running Scalix on the box does not increase a potential risk. The Scalix user that is being used by UAL does not have root permission, so whatever damage theoretically could be done is limited to the access rights of that user. Can you be more specific about your concerns?

Thanks,

Sascha.

Is opening the scalix mapi port to the Internet going to create more problems than it solves? Does is significantly weaken the security of the box?

No, it does not make it any less secure. You can open it from the Internet just like all the other ports you need (25,143,etc).

Cheers,

Sascha.
