Installing on a headless machine

Postby snop » Tue Apr 20, 2004 5:06 am

Hello All,

I just want to enquire if it is possible to install Scalix Server in CLI, i.e. without using the wizard. I am trying to install Scalix onto a 1U machine as a headless appliance. For security and various reasons, i would like to install a bare bone OS with minimum RPM packages just enough to allow Scalix to operate. Is this possible?

Thanks

Snop

This is most definitely possible.

You need to install scalix-server-core and any scalix-server-lang RPMS required.

Once you have them installed, do the following:

1) ommakeom

This will build the Scalix instance data.

2) omaddmn -m mailnode -D domain

obviously make mailnode and domain specific to your organisation.

3) omrc

This will start up the Scalix instance

4) omaddu -n "User Name/mailnode" -p password

To add a new user.

5) [optional but recommended[

omconfenu -n "User name/mailnode"

This tells the Scalix instance who the Error Notification user is. They will receive copies of NDNs etc.

You can then add your users.

You will also need to manually update your web server config if required. Example configuration scripts are in /opt/scalix/examples/apache.

Cheers
