We are moving off of our old mail system and wanted to know if scalix would allow us to
just add the old e-mail address (from old mail system) to the additonal address listing for each user, and point the old mail server's mx record to the scalix server?

Thanks,
RyHD

The simple answer is yes. However, you'll also want to make sure you've added the other domain to your /etc/mail/local-host-names file so sendmail will correctly bounce any invalid mail sent to the old domain.

Thanks,
Rachel

If I understand this right......

We have 1 mailnode.
we do not need to create a new mailnode for the old domain.
we just add the old e-mail address to the additional address section of the scalix user's properties.
Point old-domain.com mx record to scalix-domain.com.
update /etc/mail/local-host-names with an entry of old-domain.com.

And that's it? mail sent to the old domain will be picked up by scalix and delivered to the user's new scalix address? If that's the case, than that's great! but I wanted to make sure....

Yep, that's all there is to it.

One last question

Since the old domain is ryansinc.com, and the scalix domain is ryans.com, do i need to make an entry in the sendmail.cf file under the "Who I Masquerade As...." section? Or will Scalix automatically pick up the changes made in /etc/mail/local-host-names?

Scalix will use the first email address listed in the user's directory entry. So, if all of the users have name@ryans.com as their first address and name@ryansinc.com as their second address, then Scalix will send their outgoing mail with name@ryans.com. So, as long as you've set it that way, there's no need to masquerade.

Thanks,
Rachel
