omldapsync / omaddpdl Error

Hello all.
I'm attempting to sync my PDLs over from my LDAP server. I've noticed that omldapsync/omaddpdl complain when there are certain special characters in the CN of my LDAP entry for a PDL.
Is there a list of disallowed characters somewhere?
Also, what is the reason for this? Preferably, I'd like to use a CN that is identical to the IA of the PDL.
