I moved the server behind a linksys and of course it now has a 192.x.x.x ip. Everything works fine. I made sure to forward the key ports to the server.

My question: should the /etc/hosts file contain the public ip of the server or the natted ip?

Currently DNS and everything points to the public IP, except for the hosts file which has the natted IP. Since everything is working, I was hesitant to change the hosts file.

You don't have to have the public ip in the host file.
