Problems with returned mail

Postby jillrae » Tue May 16, 2006 8:51 am

Have an on-going problem with email being rejected by the server we are sending it to. It is not always the same server, but they detect our messages as SPAM or infected. This only happens when we REPLY to a received email. If we were to start a brand new email, they are alway accespted. This puts a "kink" in our email trails as it is good to have the last 3 or 4 replies all on one email for reference for both parties.

Is there a limit to the number (if any) replies that can be made on one email? How is the format different in a New vs REPLY message? Could this be triggering the SPAM/infected problem?

Thanks

Jill

Can you post the non-delivery otherwise we can only speculate what the problem is.

Cheers

Hi,

if I remember correctly, you are using a spam appliance and you have posted the same question previously. Why don't you take that part out of the equation and send directly without the spam appliance. As it looks, you don't have a problem with Scalix, but with a third party product.

The error message Diagnostic-Code: SMTP; 550 Host unknown means exactly that, the host is unknown. This is a DNS problem, not a Scalix problem. Can you try changing the DNS server you are using or have someone check that for you?

Thanks,

Sascha.

Thanks. I'll remove my SPAM filter and see what happends then. Will post a reply in a few days. I'll double check the DNS resolution error.

Update. Removed my SPAM filtering software, BitDefender, yesterday AM. All day no problems sending, receiving or replying multiple times to emails that the day before were "bounced". Have no idea what BitDefender does to the emails, but will take that issue up with them. Meanwhile I have downloaded Spam Assassan and will work on installingit. Although I was suprised the amount of SPAM getting through has not increased significantly with or without Bit Defender.

Thanks

Jill
