Auto-managing attachments

Postby Valerion » Thu May 11, 2006 6:02 am

I've had an interesting question from a client, and I can't think of a way to do this, and I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions for me.

To save on internet bandwidth they want to auto-zip attachments larger than a certain size when it leaves Scalix. Using a milter it may be theoretically possible to this in sendmail, but I was wondering if there is a Scalix internal way of achieving this.

I haven't investigated this in great depth but technically it is possible to zip files of a certain TYPE on the outgoing unix g/w.

Unfortunately it isn't possible to do that based on SIZE.

I understand the thinking behind the requirement but a larger number of companys are rejecting files like ZIP, EXE, BAT, PIF files without even checking them as they are usually virus carriers.

Cheers

Dave
