Scalability advice & experiences

Good morning!

I would like to hear about your experiences on large scale Scalix installations. I was thinking of 10.000+ users (not necessarily active at the same time though...). Our company is using a mainframe based solution today and I am trying to understand what direction we should move to in the future. There is always exchange and notes, but we are not convinced that we are ready to put up the required money and staff to handle that. So another question to you that are running larger Scalix shops; how about man-power? What does takes to support lets say 10 000 mail users, a mix of "power" and casual users.

Any advice or pointers to other sources of information would be most welcome! I really would like to get some external input before we approace the supplier ...

Actually I hope someone external will chime in here as well and provide some real-world experience. I believe I may dare to say, though, that the admin/user ratio for Scalix is more favorable for any IT operations department than for the other possible solutions you've been referring to.

Some of our customers make their own TCO comparisons - including operational cost - and have found a 30-70% potential for savings; we don't really publish the calculations as a lot of individual factors go in there - obviously, organisations with good skill sets around open systems have some advantages as well.

Again, let's wait if someone contributes here, if not, I'd at least invite you to contact me directly at <givenname>@scalix.com - I rather work on the technical than the sales side - and I'll then be able to get you in touch with some of our larger customers that I believe will be ready to share their honest and open experiences.

Your name sounds like you're from Sweden - we have a couple of nice reference customers in the Nordics as well... :-)
