MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN warning every 30 minutes

I seem to have a bizarre error with my Scalix deployment
(less than 10 users, Centos 5.2, Scalix 11.4.6)

Every 30 minutes I get the following error in my mailllog.. I'd understand if it was a general failure (misconfiguration)- but every 30 minutes?

What're your ideas for further investigation/resolution?

A normal SMTP conversation goes something like this:

Sending Host: ehlo host.domain.com
Receiving Host: Hello
SH: Mail from: <somebody@some.domain.com>

The problem is that a connection is being made and that "Hello/Mail from" portion is broken.

Because it's happening every 30 minutes, regularly, that suggests some automated process on the local host is hitting port 25, issuing the ehlo, but then never saying "mail from" (or any of the other expected commands listed in the error...MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN).

Check your crontab to see what runs at 30 minutes past the hour, every hour.

It could also be a sendmail misconfiguration, I suppose, if sendmail is trying to process the queue every 30 minutes at the same time you're seeing the errors logged. You could change the interval at which sendmail processes its queue - set it to every 45 or 60 minutes, for example - and see if the errors get logged at 45 or 60 minute intervals.
