I searched and didn't come up with anything. Will Scalix 10 run on Fedora Core 5 (which was released this week)? Thanks.

No, Scalix 10 is not supported with FC5.

Our supported versions depend on the distros that are available at code freeze. Expect to see FC5 supported in the next major release ( not a patch release ).

So is there anyway that I can install Scalix 10 on a Core 5 machine? downgrade python, or anything else? I had hacks going on, on my core 3 box, and I was forced into a Core 5 upgrade. It would be very difficult for me to reinstall the box again because it's hosted remotely. I would incur costs, and delays as well off offline time.

Anything that I can do would be appreciated to get Scalix installed.

Thank you

The message I'm getting is that my python is not the right version. It's looking for Python 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4. Well my Python is 2.4.2-3.2.1. So it should qualify.

Python Error

The Python error is a Red Herring.

If you look earlier you'll see that it blew up on a "tail" command that failed because they used the old "+n" notation for tail which is no longer supported.

I got past that by editing the installer and changing the tail command to a "sed -e '1,/{archive string}/d' <" instead and dumped the "tail" thing entirely. Got further but still blew up when it slammed into their platform version check. No joy. Game over. Resorted to installing it under FC4 running in a VMware instantiation. :-(

If you really want to install on a platform that is not supported by Community Edtion, you should look at CE Raw at http://www.scalix.com/ceraw.

Turning the question around..... would Scalix 11 work on FC4?

If not, will there be a way to upgrade the OS and Scalix when upgrade time comes? This is quite important to me as I am about to roll out a number of v10s on FC4.

Cheers

From page 12 of the 10.0.1 installation guide.

Operating systems (Linux)

You can install and run Scalix in any of the following versions of Linux:
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, 4
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, 4
• SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9
Scalix can be installed on the following Linux OS’s (on Intel or AMD
hosts), but should be done only for evaluation purposes:
• Fedora Core 4
• SUSE Linux Open Source Software (OSS), v10.0

Why would you put into production operating systems that are for evaluation purposes only?

Don

Because we do extensive evaluations!

Plus FC4 seems a stable enough platform for our needs.

So will it work or not?

So in terms of uprgading FC4 >FC5 AND scalix 10>11 on a machine... could this be done without any bad things happening?
