Message to GROUPS cannot be delivered

Postby heutink » Tue Feb 01, 2005 5:35 pm

I'm having trouble getting GROUPS to work.

When sending email (using Outlook or WebMail) to a group, an email gets returned to the sender with the following characteristics:

Code: Select all

From: MAIL-SYSTEM To:name <emailname@domain.com>
Subject: Returned Mail: Message Could Not Be Delivered
Message could not be delivered to the following recipient:

    groupname@domain.com

because: Recipient name not found at destination

----- Inline Message Follows -----

sxadmin gets the following email:

Code: Select all

From: MAIL-SYSTEM
To: sxadmin
Subject: blah
Attachments:  msg file
----------------------------- ERROR REPORT ----------------------------- Message in error from:
    name / mail, domain/CN=name
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Message could not be delivered to the following recipient:

        groupname / mail, domain/CN=groupname

because: 'Recipient name not found at destination'   [OM 9300]
------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------
----------------------------- TRACE REPORT -----------------------------

                       Node: mail.domainname.com  Address: mail,domainname 02/01/05 16:14:42  Active  Operation Record: ** Message Submission
02/01/05 16:14:42  Active  Routing Record:   ** Message Relayed
                       Node: mail.domain.com  Address: mail,domain

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note:
mail is the machine name
Sending to the members internally or externally is succesful.

Any ideas what to look for?

Thanks,

Peter Heutink

You should run the command:

omshowpdl -l "groupname"

to see if the PDL actually exists.

This will also show you what the internet address for that PDL is.

omshowpdl -l "groupname" shows:

Code: Select all

Dist List Name : groupname/CN=groupname
MailNode : mail, domain
Internet Address : "groupname" <groupname@domain.com>

This seems right.
Even when there are no entries added to this PDL, emailing it doesn't work.

Additional information:
Scalix version 9.1.0.81
On Red Hat Enterprise ES

Can you enable auditing on the unix gateway and service router as follows:

1) omoff -d 0 router unix

2) omconfaud router 15 unix 15

3) omon router unix

and send another message.

The file /var/opt/scalix/logs/audit will contain some details on the routing of the message, please can you post those entries ?

Cheers

Dave.

Can you check to see if you have any ACIs defined on the PDL ?

omshowacl -l groupname

omshowacl -l groupname returns:

omshowacl: [OM 15850] Access Control List type was not specified.

Since flag -t is mandatory:
omshowacl -t bulletin -l groupname
omshowacl: [OM 15998] No such Bulletin Board could be found.

omshowacl -t directory -l groupname
omshowacl: [OM 15637] No ACL name could be found in the directory index.

omshowacl -t printer -l groupname
omshowacl: [OM 15620] The ACL does not exist.

omshowacl -t request -l groupname
omshowacl: [OM 15620] The ACL does not exist.

omshowacl -t service-l groupname
omshowacl: [OM 15620] The ACL does not exist.

Emailing 'ScalixAdmins' doesn't return any 'Message Could Not Be Delivered".
Users added to this group will not receive anything when emailed to this group nor an error message gets returned to the sender.

Anything else we can check?

Thanks.,
Peter Heutink

The next step would be to understand how you added this group.

BTW, ACLs have no effect on groups. ACIs prevent access to entries in the directory (which a group (PDL) is).

I created this group through the SAC using SXADMIN

Code: Select all

omshowpdl -l groupname -I
Dist List Name : groupname/CN=groupname
MailNode : mail, domain
Internet Address : "groupname" <groupname@domain.com>

omshowpdln -l petertest4
Peter Heutink /mail,domain/CN=Peter Heutink

I created another one using the om-commands:

Code: Select all

omaddpdl -l "petertest5/mail,domain/IA=petertest5@domain.com"
The public distribution list was added successfully

omshowpdl -l petertest5 -I
Dist List Name : petertest5/CN=petertest5
MailNode : mail, domain
Internet Address : petertest5@domain.com

omaddpdln -l "petertest5" -n "Peter Heutink"
The name was successfully added to the list

omshowpdln -l petertest5 -x
X Peter Heutink /mail,domain/CN=Peter Heutink

This still has the same problems as described in previously described.

Creating a PDL with the -Q switch (no internet address) doesn't solve the problem.

Thanks,
Peter Heutink

Can you enable auditing on Local Delivery and post the output ?

:D YEAH!!!!

It looks like I got it to work.

I did a "omscan -a" but I don't remember if I tried email groups after issuing this command.

I did enable auditing on Local Delivery.

I'm not sure what did fix the problem but I expect the omscan did.

Thanks for all the help,

Peter Heutink

I can't say what the problem was but most likely stopping and starting Local Delivery fixed it.

Cheers

Dave
