Windows 2008 R2 with Scalix AD Extension and GUI

Postby brutus » Tue Feb 23, 2010 6:26 pm

Hi,

i'm currently playing with Scalixand Windows server 2008 r2. I've installed the schema extension and the gui on the domain controller, but can not access the scalix console via mmc.exe. I can't simply choose it from the list.

Are the Scalix AD add-ins compatible with Windows 2008 R2? Does anybody has this setup running?

Thanks and Kind Regards
Andreas

It is known to work on W2K8 R2, but I am struggling with your description "can not access the scalix console via mmc.exe".
The GUI extension is basically just enhancing the "AD users and groups" with the ability to define additional properties which can be synced to Scalix afterwards through omldapsync.

Hi,

thanks for your help. It's working. Maybe I missunderstood the manual. It meantions a separate mmc where I can manage scalix. But you're right. The after I created a new user with a scalix mailbox, I saw the ad extensions.

Kind Regards,
Andreas

Actually, there is a Scalix MMC plugin... it's used to manage the valid mailnodes/domains.

Wish I could take credit for this but I cannot (thanks, Andrew M!)

Once the extensions are installed, you will have some new files in c:\program files\Scalix\Administration. One of these is ScalixForestPrep.exe which you ran as part of installing the extensions.

One of them is AdminMMC.dll.
Run
regsvr32 C:\Program Files\Scalix\Administration\AdminMMC.dll

Then
Start -> Run -> MMC

Now you can see the Scalix Mgt Console in the list of available snap-ins.

I couldn't get it to work
From what I heard Slcalix GUI extensions don't work on 64-bit OSes. If we want to use Windows 7 or 2008 R" we are out of luck :(
Hopefully you can prove me wrong. We are using Scalix 11.4.4 (currently hosted on Win 2003 32-bit).
The install runs OK on 64-bit Win7 but if I try to register the DLLs the 2nd one gives me the following error

Code: Select all

[Window Title]
RegSvr32
[Content]
The module "C:\Program Files (x86)\Scalix\Administration\ScalixADPages.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80029c4a.
For more information about this problem, search online using the error code as a search term.

If you haven't disabled UAC, you must register the DLLs from an "Admin" command prompt (start->type cmd->ctrl-shift-enter->yes to UAC prompt). Only one of the DLLs will register successfully. This allows me to add new users, or managed existing users with the Scalix dialogs. For some reason the "Scalix Administration" MMC snap-in that manages the list of mailnodes/domains does not work.
