What causing the service router to stop?

Postby bluemike » Mon Feb 06, 2006 6:27 pm

Emails started backing up in the queue this morning, and I discovered the Service Router was stopped. What would cause this? The server was just 'sitting there'. Everything was fine one minute, and then emails just stopped being delivered. I will going on vacation at the end of the month, and while I'm gone problems like this will go un-noticed.

I need to get to the source of the problem before I leave ;)

Here is the information from the fatal log:

Code: Select all

UPDATE: Worm_Bagle.CL

Postby bluemike » Mon Feb 06, 2006 6:36 pm

About 1 second before the service router stopped, I found a message containing a virus had been sent to us. The Trend Micro AV in Scalix caught and dicarded the message. So at least I know this wasn't just some random event.

Should the service router be doing this every time a virus is discarded? I did have the ALL-ROUTES.VIR file set up to send a notifacation to the sender that their email was not delivered. Perhaps the reply messed up the service router. I have removed the NOTIFY section of the ALL-ROUTES.VIR files.

Hi Mike,

The SR had a problem performing a gethostname which could indicate a DNS problem, but I would like to see your ALL-ROUTES.VIR file and an ls -l of your /var/opt/scalix/rules subdirectory.

Thanks,
Rachel

My ALL-ROUTES.VIR:

Code: Select all

VIRUS-FOUND=1 ACTION=DISCARD NOTIFY=You email contains a virus and will not be delivered
VIRUS-FOUND=0 ACTION=ALLOW

my rules folder:

Code: Select all

all-routes.vir~   ALL-ROUTES.VIR~   ndinfo.txt   omvscan.map
ALL-ROUTES.VIR    crash-hat.repo    ndinfo.txt~  Petr.Kristof-GPG-KEY

I don't know what all those ~ fiules are. They don't show up in the file browser.

Hi Mike,

First thing, the NOTIFY string must be quoted, so it should read:

Code: Select all

VIRUS-FOUND=1 ACTION=DISCARD NOTIFY="You [sic] email contains a virus and will not be delivered"
VIRUS-FOUND=0 ACTION=ALLOW

Next, could you verify that the ALL-ROUTES.VIR file is not a DOS file? If it is, use the dos2unix command to convert it.

Thanks,
Rachel

I have removed the NOTIFY segment from the all routes completely, and I have run the dos2unix on the file. It said it converted it, but it seems to say that about any file. How would it become a DOS file anyway? I have never opened it on anyting other that the FC4 server.

My DNS settings were a bit wrong too BTW. I had never set up a secondary or tertiary DNS. I have added them now. Hopefully this problem is solved now...

Thanks!
