Spamassassin with IMAP mail

For reasons I have discussed here before, I can't use the Outlook plugin for Scalix and have chosen to use IMAP instead. I thought I had read somewhere that SA only will work if you are using the OL plugin on the client side.

Hi Mike,
Weren't you guys looking into getting an anti-spam appliance? Are you looking to setup SA as an intermediate solution?
To answer your question, SA is a server process so it can be used with any client. You just need to create a rule that filters tagged messages to a spam, junk or trash folder.
Thanks,
Rachel

Yeah, we were/are looking into getting an appliance. My boss is flip-flopping. We just upgraded to OL 2003, which as it turns out, has some basic spam filtering built-in. So now I am back to using SA as a *real* anti-spam option.
I think the problems I had in the past were finding the right RPMs. Everybody just kept saying '..they are easily available on the Internet'. I kept downloading RPMs that were dependant on other RPMs. Then I would get those, only to find they were dependant on the first ones. Good times.
For example, on my system spamass-milter wouldn't install until spamass-devop and spamassassin was installed. And spamass-deveop wouldn't install until spamassassin was installed. Then spammassassin tells me it needs spamass-deveop to install. So, long story short, I was getting frustrated.
I tried using YUM on everything, and it all seemd to install ok, but I never got it to work....
Anyway, I digress. Thanks for the input on SA and IMAP. Maybe I will try again when I have more patience....
