Application Link Server: what is it?

My email server was running slow. I did the omstat -a & -s and it showed all services & dameons were running. So I did an omshut. When it was executing I saw where the Application Link Server was already stopped.

What is the Application Link Server and would it being stopped make things run slow?

Everything is running fine now after the omrc.

The applink server handles application mailboxes. This is a legacy service that's no longer supported IIRC. It should be stopped.
