Archive Account Caused TONS of problems

Postby dpinkston » Wed Mar 12, 2008 1:47 pm

I enabled my Archive about 2 months ago. It has reached a mailbox size of approx 13 gigs. Just today I kept getting tons of errors about error sending to the archive mailbox.

Code: Select all

SERIOUS ERROR Local Delivery(Local Delivery) 03.12.08 10:01:00
[OM 7743] Unexpected error when delivering message to user: Airxcel Archive/airxcel
Current errno value: 22
Last Msg Id: 002701c8844c(036)eee14220(036)9b01010a(a)airxcel.com

And the Local Deleivery service would stop and no one would get e-mails. So I attempted to delete my archive account and then start the LD again. Well the e-mails started going through but the web interface seem to froze when deleting the Archive account. Well the archive account never got fully deleted and it will not let me delete it nor log into it.

So my two questions...

1.) How can I get rid of that Archive account that I tried deleting once?

2.) What happened and what can I do to prevent this in the future?

Thanks in Advance!
Derek

P.S. I still have the archive options active but sending to a different account.

To delete 13GB of email will take a long time, and I do mean LONG, as the server deletes the individual emails off the disk during this process. It will seem to freeze, possibly for an hour or more as this is done. If you cancel the action from the web interface, you may end up with a half-deleted account.

To make sure it's deleted: run omshowu -m all and see if it shows up. If it does, use omdelu to delete it. If it does not, do a omsearch -e S=Archive/G=Airxcel/OU1=airxcel and see if it shows up. if it does, delete the entry with omdelent.

As to why this happens, I am not sure. Scalix should be able to handle mailboxes of that size. Personally though, I would prefer to arhive to disk or another server rather than into a mailbox.

How should I setup the off server archive? Just something as simple as a mail client on another server?

Thanks,
Derek

That is probably the easiest if you need it in a mailbox, yes.
