How to migrate to Scalix 11.3 ?

Hi,

we are currently running Scalix 11.1 under UCS 1.3.2 (Univention Debian).

We now want to move to UCS 2.0 including Scalix 11.3 in a single step if possible. As we do have new hardware, it is easy to set up the new system. But what about the data (mailsore etc.) and settings ?

Is there a way to move (copy, export, whatever...) data from an 11.1 to an 11.3 installation ?

Arndt.

Just search the forum. Your question has been answered in details on many posts.

I forgot to mention that there is one important restriction: There is NO installation for Scalix 11.3 available for UCS 1.3.2 neither is one for Scalix.11.1 on UCS 2.0.
So the UCS operating system (1.3.2->2.0) AND the Scalix application (11.1->11.3) have to be updated at the same time. Well, if this works: fine, but if not...

Maybe I'm to blind to see, but I didn't find an answer to the question in the forum, if moving scalix-data from an 11.1 installation to an 11.3 installation is possible or not.
Can someone give me a "go" for that ?

I can't tell for sure that everything will go 100% with UCS 1.3.2, but the general guide lines for what you want to do should be the same as explained on this very recent thread:

Hi

It may be better in the long run to use a supported operating system.
Makes things easier, especially if mail is important / critical to you

Mike,

Scalix on Univention UCS is supported; it's a OEM product currently available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland through our partner Univention. Please see www.univention.de.

However, the particular OS combinations supported are selected by Univention as they provide first-level support for this integrated solution (it's more than just Scalix, Management System special directory, etc.).

As far as I know, Univention currently only supports Scalix 11.3 on their 2.0 product; any further combinations would need to be approved by them.

So Arndt, please contact Univention Support/Sales for this question.

Hi Florian,

of course, we are in contact with Univention. My question was more in general if it is possible to move Scalix-Data from one installation to another with a different version number (like in our case 11.1->11.3).

The procedure described here: http://www.scalix.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9819&highlight=migrate says it is:
- Install 11.3 on the new server with new OS
- Remove the scalix installation from the new system
- On new server replace /var/opt/scalix with the one from the old server
- Reinstall 11.3
- Run the fix permissions script
- run ompatchom

We will give that a try and post the results...

Thanks to all.

Sure, this procedure generally applies to all versions of scalix, ever.

you should note, though, that in univention the process for installing the application is again different, so not sure if the proceedings are completely compatible with this.
