I do not enable secure authentication, nor do I use SSL. I was planning to when I can make the time and free up a new server for the upgrade, but in the meantime I'm not.

Well I just showed you no imap folders exist. I don't know what to tell you other than that.

On previous occasions when I have password problems with Thunderbird they always related to the encryption scheme I selected on the secure connection preferences. I found out that when I use SSL or TLS and in addition "Use secure authentication" the password got encrypted "twice in the row" and the server didn't know what to do with it. So, either you don't use secure connection (no SSL or TLS) and use secure authentication for the password or the other way around.

But, this does not explain the problem I have with kmail and also with pocket messenger (on my iPaq), both of which connect on IMAP.

What should I do? Export this account, delete it, then re-import it? What is the best/least painless way to do this?

Just a thought: what happens if you configure outlook with IMAP?

I'd have to run Windows to find out. Please spare me the pain! ;)

Seriously though I will try to make time to try it on a Windows workstation, but I'm confident I'll see the exact same result. I've already verified it with three clients, isn't that enough to demonstrate it is not a client issue?

Hi Kim

I know that this thred has been running for a while now. Have you solved the issue?

1st kill all IMAP processes. Never mind they will regenerate. Sometimes they get stuck

omstat -u rci -c for all the imap processes

or pkill -9 imap

followed by

omoff -d0 -w imapd && omon imapd

Hi Mike,

I have to kill them repeatedly. One weekend I'm just going to bite the bullet and upgrade the server.

Hi Kim

What version do you have?

Upgrading has always been fairly straight forward for us.
Just do th tar of the message store
sxmboxexp if you want. If your upgrading from v10.x this may be a good idea
run omscan -Aafvx the night before to get the message store consistant

then do the upgrade

Well I just ran omscan on the entire store AGAIN today, then rebooted the box. Couldn't get to my mailbox. I didn't worry about it since others could get in. Came home tonight, tried to check email, couldn't get in, so I logged in as admin. Found my account was now locked. Toggled it a couple of times, now it seems to be working.

Very odd.

As far as updating: I am on OpenSuSE 10.0. I'll need to upgrade to 10.2 or move over to CentOS 5.

Hi Kim

Yep you certainly need to gett off the Open SUSE or Fedora core platforms to something that lasts a bit longer. CentOS is OK

Probably the best way for you to migrate is to build a fresh server. Then use omcpoutu to export each mailbox and omcpinu to bring them into the new server. You can do things like tar up the message store (/var/opt/scalix/ ) but in your situation it will lead to a LOT of sleepless nights and frustrated users. You don't have the option of upgrading your current server to 11.3U1 so the only option is as above.

If you can use LVM when you set up the new server it would be of definite advantage.

I'm ashamed to say I didn't realize/notice we're talking about a pre-historic version to the server (10.0.1.3 ), otherwise I would have abstained from making any comments.

Kim,

without upgrading the only other thing i can think of is to fully dump and reload your mailbox, especially if only your account is experiencing problems.

Having said that though, that process was a lot more work in version 10. In 11 its more straight forward.

Upgrading would be the next best step, CentOS 5 and LVM is a good move.

Les Stott

*nod* I already came to that conclusion - and 10.0 does not seem to have any single-mailbox equivalent to sxmboximp :(

My account is acting up again. I'm planning on pulling an all-nighter to set up CentOS and upgrade the system next week. Ugh!

Well folks thanks for the time. Even though the issue isn't resolved I really do appreciate your efforts. I mean this as a compliment, not a slight; I really do. The folks in this community always seem to be willing to help each other.

There is omcpoutu / omcpinu. Not as powerful as the v.11 tools, but they do dump and import correctly.
