Strange Error with email addresses

Postby burhankhalid » Thu Mar 30, 2006 1:15 pm

I have a strange error that just popped up today on one of my mailnodes, but its not showing on the other. I recently updated the MX record for the domain that is pointing to the mailnode in which this error occurs -- this is the only thing that I can think of that could be causing this, but I want to verify it.

I can send messages from one mailnode to the other. I can send from both my mailnodes to an external email address (testing against gmail).

However, the problem is when recieving messages.

For one of the mail nodes, if I reply to a recieved message from, I get the following immediately back (masked the email address):

Code: Select all

Yes, I did.

The user in Scalix only has one address. It is clearly working as the message is sent from the same address. What is going on here?

I did the following tests

Code: Select all

$ host -t mx khalid[dot]am-ul[dot]com
khalid[dot]am-ul[dot]com has no MX record
$ telnet khalid[dot]am-ul[dot]com 25
Trying xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx...
Connected to khalid[dot]am-ul[dot]com (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx).
Escape character is '^]'.
220-server[dot]am-ul[dot]com ESMTP Exim 4.52 #1 Thu, 30 Mar 2006 20:17:59 +0300
220-We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited,
220 and/or bulk e-mail.
quit
221 server[dot]am-ul[dot]com closing connection
Connection closed by foreign host.

So, this doesn't look like your MX changes have propagated.

Cheers

Dave

Ah yes, thanks for the verification Dave. I didn't know if I did something wrong. I was testing for about 3 weeks on my personal domain, and today we decided that we should shift the corporate domain over.

I guess I'll do the standard wait thing.

If you have some time, could you please have a look at my other thread regarding the 550 Spam List email?

It could be a number of things. If you search on 550 spam you will find a number of possible solutions, one of which I'm sure will fix you up.

Regards,
Don
