can't rename public folders

Postby seafarer » Tue Mar 28, 2006 6:17 am

I need to rename Public Folders so the new name is visible both via Outlook Connect and Web Access (right click, rename, as full administrator doesn't work). Very grateful for any help.
thanks,
seafarer

Hi,

are you getting an error message and if so, what is it verbatim?

Thanks,

Sascha.

No error message. If I try right click rename via web access the selected "public folders" name just stays the same, i.e. doesn't turn to the usual blue "rename" status. Via Outlook Connect it seems to accept the rename but on close reopen it's gone back to "public folders" again.
I imagine I need to do something directly on the server rather than via Outlook or web access, but I'm afraid I don't know what.
thanks for any guidance.

I have changed it now with both SWA and Outlook and I cannot get it to fail. Can you make sure all clients are logged out and the server has been restarted, then as the single user, try renameing it using Outlook. Failing that, delete the folder and recreate it. As said, I cannot reproduce it.

Cheers,

Sascha.

Hmmnn - no luck I'm afraid. restarted everything, only user logged in is full administrator - same problem as before. I guess it's a permissions issue, but I don't really know where to go with this. Grateful for any other thoughts.

Are you talking about the top level folder called "Public Folders" under which all other public folders are created? If so, then this folder cannot be renamed on a permanent basis. I do see it can be renamed for a session, which is not right. I'll enter a bug to correct that.

Don

Yes, that's exactly right - I mean the top-level folder. Thanks Don, look forward to hearing more.

Not much more to look forward to hearing. It is not right that you can rename the top level public folder at all so I will be entering a bug to make sure that cannot happen.

Regards,
Don
