fetchmail -> internal user, etc.

Postby Jens » Mon Mar 06, 2006 10:48 am

Hello,
Some question regarding Scalix10 (Fetchmail, message assignments,...):

There is a scalix-user e.g. named ANTON (sending via smtp works fine also Outlook/webmail).
I am using Fetchamil and can receive all messages via ISP-POP3.
But I don't know which Local User(s) to use to see the message within Scalix10.

I tried as seen in this post: http://www.scalix.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=706
and added ANTON@127.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.xx
I tried ANTON@localhost, but nothing worked.

Can you advise me regards this (I hope) simple question?

Is it necessary to create a Linux- or Sendmail-User?
Should I see a new created Scalix-User in the Sendmail user list?
Do I have to create anything like domaintable, CR, CG or virtuser?

I am a little bit confused.

//o\\

If I would like to receive all messages
- for the entire domain in one ISP-e-mail account
- or for different domains in differetn ISp-e-mail accounts
and let Scalix (after SPAM classification via Spam Assasin) manage the assignment of the correct Scalix-Accounts, how I would do this?

What would the receiver see if I would answer (remail) a message directed to domainzzz if the mail server is domainaaa?
Can I change the senders address in Outlook or SAC?

//o\\

And a third question.
If I have e.g. 500++ messages in an inbox-directory it will last very long to get an first overview.
I added a limitation of max. 100 records (max. Anzahl von Einträgen: 100) in the SAC Gerneral-tab
If this is the right entry, why I can see more then 100 messages in the inbox directory.
Or is there a misunderstanding. What would make it faster to get the first information (inobx overview)?
Of course later I will create different directories, but sometimes it can happen.

In comparison, currently we use Tobit's Web Access and there is a record-limitation, so I can see the first messages (overview) very fast.

//o\\

Also I would like to ask if you can tell me how I can recreate the message store if there wuld be any damages in the directory structure or whatever. I would not like to save the messages in the pst-file What is unique regarding your "message store". Why I should not use a windows directory? Which is the best type of hdd formatting?
Do you have any special advise regarding backup tools or backup procedures?

Best regards
Jens

Hi,

let's start with fetchmail.

192.168.xx is a private subnet, so feel free to post the exact IP, nobody will be able to do anything with that information.

You could always post your configuration, that might help us.

If you connect to 192.168.xx.xx on port 25, you should see the Scalix SMTPd message. Can you confirm? Use telnet IP address 25 to connect.

Cheers,

Sascha.

Hi Sascha,
thanks for the support, I hope we will get it running.
Therfore first of all my configuration:

222.222.222.111 (dynamic DSL IP) ---> external 192.168.0.5 ---> Firewall/Virus ---> internal 192.168.0.1 (Windows 2003 AD, DNS, etc.) --- > 192.168.0.60 (scalix-server within virtual machine)
OS: Fedora Core 4, Webmin for administration, no X-Server or other graphical GUI
quasi static IP (e.g. 222.222.222.111) via DynDNS for scalix.domain.de (address pointer)
MX record: domain.de. >> responsible mailserver: mailserv.provider.com. >> Priority: 10

on 192.168.0.1 appache with proxypass config:

Code: Select all

<VirtualHost *:80>
   ServerName scalix.domain.de:80
   ServerAlias www.scalix.domain.de
   <Location />
      Order Allow,Deny
      Allow from all
      ProxyPass http://192.168.0.61:80/
      ProxyPassReverse http://192.168.0.61:80/
   </Location>
</VirtualHost>
# Umleitung scalix.domain.de:443........

Setup in SAC (via www.scalix.domain.de/sac/):
server: domain.de
mailnode1 domain,de with address domain: domain.de
mailnode2 otherdomain,de with address domain: otherdomain,de

Do you need more information?

regarding port 25 (using Putty.exe from 192.168.0.30):
SSH: yes is possible (login in 192.168.0.61)
Telnet: no, is not possible (192.168.0.61:25) -- > no communication
Maybe there is anything wrong with putty. I am not sure what I have to configure (how to check the port within the Linux Server)...

Best regards
Jens

As an example I will post a Header from a sent message, maybe it tells you a little bit more:
