Scalix on vSphere 4

Postby Jakes » Mon Oct 25, 2010 6:55 am

Hi all.

For anybody interested we have been looking into virtualising Scalix on VMware. I have restored our production Scalix server into a virtual machine and have been checking how long certain maintenance tasks take as opposed to the physical box as I have not really been able to think of a way of objectively testing Outlook etc in our current environment.

Subjectively web mail seems to run exactly the same on both platforms and the attached PDF has some of the times taken to achieve certain tasks on both platforms.

The hosts is running VMware ESX1 4.0 Update 2 and currently we are running 10 other guests on the host including a Web server, VPN, Domain Controller and Database server but very few of the guests get taxed heavily for any length of time. We are looking to virtualise Scalix as the hardware warranty on the current server expires next year and rather than replacing it we intend to get another VM host and unified storage.

Any comments would be appreciated and I would be happy to run any suggested tests (if possible in our environment).

Cheers
