New to this, need some Information

Postby aniewels » Fri Feb 24, 2006 7:02 am

Hi,

I'm new to this (exchange, scalix structure) and need some explanation / configuration help.

I'm running scalix on redhat and everything works well. We are running a test soon and therefore i would like to preconfigure the system as much as possible.

I think its best when i first try to explain what i want:

- Shared Adressbook
- Public Folders
- Shared Calendar
- of course mail
- tasks
- calendar, tasks and adressbook also administrated by a secretary

atm we are using the famous "shout through the office" system ;)
so i have no idea, which options i have to set for sharing adressbooks and calendars.

could someone give me some general advice?

thanks in advance
alex

Wow, this is actually really pretty generic and a full answer to that would be a bit too much for this place.

Let's start simple - what client are you planning on using? For the most complete functionality, Outlook would probably be your best choice, though we're working hard to provide more alternatives to it.

Cheers,
Florian.

We are using Outlook atm and we want to keep it.
Thats why we try Scalix.

edit:
So I just need to know, how to administer things like "shared contacts" and "shared calendar"... or how do i set a calendar of someone specific "public".

Can't find anything like that in the user or group administration of scalix.

Given the time of day - are you located on the european side of things?

If you want, you can also contact me directly at florian@ and then our domainname.com (sorry, need to fool the 'bots!)

Sharing of public and private folders in an Outlook environment is setup through Outlook (by the user himself for private folders or by an administrator for public folders). This is the same way as you would do it with Exchange.

User and Group administration in Scalix Admin Console is limited by design to actually setting up the users, not doing anythingi inside their mailbox.

Cheers,
Florian.
