not accepting password for mail and webmail

somehow my server doesn't accept passwords anymore. i can log in to sac with sxadmin but can't login to webmail or pop3/imap. it says the username password isn't right. even if I change the password in sac for a user it still doesn't work. no one can log in for mail!

what went wrong?

server? suse enterprise server 10 and scalix 11.4.6

EDIT: I noticed some services weren't started. But when I do a /etc/init.d/scalix start it FAILS What can be wrong? I don't get it anymore...

Did you try making sure scalix was completely shutdown 1st (try with omshut or omoff.) A service can't start up if it isn't shutdown 1st.

Had you recently restarted the server itself? There may be some dependent services that didn't start up (e.g. antivirus.)

I managed to get te services started after a reinstall of all services. But still no login possibility

If I try it says: An error has occurred. Contact your e-mail administrator if the problem persists. Where can I see the log what's going wrong?

I did restart the server a couple of times, but all depending services are running

As you can see from your previous post there are still some services and daemons aborted.
I'd start to see what

If you can not read this today: restart Scalix, try to logon and do a

I think it is possible to restart the server, have the scalix try to start before dependencies start, then the dependencies start but scalix is already in trouble. I had an issue with clamav like this. Rebooting the server didn't help. But all the dependent services did seem to be running. Stopping then starting all the services did get scalix working. It wasn't clear if this has been done or just server reboots only.

Could it not be the password file is corrupted? Where can I find it? If I have to set new passwords for all users it's OK with me (although I prefer not to, but if its the solution I like to do it...)

I moved /var/opt/scalix to a new server, but same problem wit not accepting passwords....

Still can't log in. Some facts:

- All services are running well now.
- I can log in to SAC with sxadmin
- Nor sxadmin, nor users can login to webmail/IMAP/POP3
- When I try to log in to webmail I always get a message: An error has occurred. Contact your e-mail administrator if the problem persists.

Where are the user passwords kept? Maybe this file is corrupt? Could it be?

Is there a way to delete this file and make new passwords for the users so they can log in again or do I have to find the problem elsewhere? Any suggestions would be welcome!

I managed to get the old data with sxmboxexport, so the login fail isn't a problem anymore....However I think it's good to solve this problem, because it can be helpful for some other people with the same problem in the future.

So if anyone feels the same, any help would be appreciated!

In the meanwhile I try to fix it by myself and will post any progression.
