pop with scalix server in Outlook?

Postby kingson » Tue Feb 08, 2005 4:47 pm

We are trying to use the group calendaring functionality, and from the manuals, I gathered that must be done through full-fledge 'Scalix Server' server under Outlook.

The problem is this Outlook configuration requires everyone to setup a new profile, and it forces people to use IMAP while browsing their emails.

Lots of people would love to keep their old emails handy (locally stored in Outlook), and they want to use POP as the network bandwidth between the remote office and the server is rather small.

Any idea of how to configure Outlook to use POP and use the Scalix group calendaring at the same time without the need to configure a new Outlook profile?

Thanks,
Kingson

We don't use IMAP for our protocol between the Outlook client and Scalix server. It's a proprietary Scalix one.

At present, the Scalix Connect providers are designed to be the default Outlook store for messages, i.e. the place where Outlook will expect new messages to be delivered. This means that it can conflict with the POP provider. This can been seen when POP does not indicate that new messages have been received.

Scalix only supports Scalix Connect as the single provider in a profile.

If you want to use calendaring then SWA may solve your problem.

Cheers

Dave.
