Not listening on port 25?

Postby bluemike » Fri Jan 13, 2006 9:35 pm

I just rebooted the server and it seemed to come up okay. However, upon opening SAC I noticed that SMTPD was not running. Here's what the log says:

ERROR SMTP Relay (SMTPD Relay Pr) 01.13.06 17:31:57
[OM.DMON 2171] The SMTP Relay could not listen on port 25.

The only thing I changed was installing TM VirusWall. Is that interfering with port 25?

hi,

tm viruswall binds to port 25 on all ip addresses by default.

try
telnet YOUR_IP 25

which smtp server responds?

cheers

That is correct, another eay would be lsof -i tcp:25. If you started Trendmicro before Scalix / sendmail, then yes, it would bind to all interfaces and you would see the above error. Try setting TM to a different port.

Sascha.

I am trying to figure out how to configure TM so as to avoid the SMTP error. I have opened the TM web-based admin acreen. There is a field where I tell TM what my install SMTP server program is.
The default information there is: /usr/lib/sendmail -bs
Should I change that to something else? I know this isn't exactly a Scalix problem, but the word 'scalix' appears nowhere in the Trend Micro KB. Not to mention, I can't get live support until I pay for the software!

You do not need to install any of the SMTP, HTTP or FTP components for Trend unless you are planning to use them for other reasons. The only thing we require is that the command-line scanner is available.

Cheers
