SASL auth error when trying to send mail on new install

Postby knobby » Tue Apr 01, 2008 5:47 pm

I just installed scalix 11 on redhat 5 and everything seemed to go without and problems. I created some users and tried sending mail. The email sits in the outbox for a bit and then drops into the drafts folder. I check the /var/log/maillog file and see this output:

Apr 1 14:00:19 hostname postfix/master[2559]: daemon started -- version 2.3.3, configuration /etc/postfix
Apr 1 16:37:33 hostname postfix/smtpd[3740]: connect from hostname.domain.com[10.10.10.1]
Apr 1 16:37:35 hostname postfix/smtpd[3740]: warning: hostname.domain.com[10.10.10.1]: SASL LOGIN authentication failed: authentication failure
Apr 1 16:37:35 hostname postfix/smtpd[3740]: lost connection after AUTH from hostname.domain.com[10.10.10.1]
Apr 1 16:37:35 hostname postfix/smtpd[3740]: disconnect from hostname.domain.com[10.10.10.1]

I found some info in a thread about another error and added my domain names and ip address to /etc/mail/access , /etc/mail/local-host-names , and /var/opt/scalix/jl/s/sys/smtpd.cfg but still get the error. Again, this is a clean install of Redhat and Scalix. Not sure what to look at. Any help will be appreciated.

I tried sending email from an internet server and got this bounce:

10.10.10.1 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 554 5.7.1 <user@domain.com>: Relay access denied
Giving up on 10.10.10.1.

It's like it doesn't know it should be receiving mail for the domain.

I have uninstalled, deleted the /var/opt/scalix directory and run the installer again. Same result. Scalix 11.3 on Redhat 5. It worked great on the test server. I have checked DNS settings several times, can't seem to figure it out.

omstat -a shows SMTP Relay as partially aborted. If I stop and start with omon/off it still shows partially aborted. Haven't found anything in any logs to go on.

Well it looks like postfix was not supposed to be running, it was part of the Redhat install.

Fix:
/etc/init.d/postfix stop

/sbin/chkconfig postfix off

Return to “Scalix Server”
