quesiton about mailbox size (SAC versus omscan versus actual

Postby audiotron2002 » Fri Jan 25, 2008 10:39 am

In SAC, Scalix reports that a user has a mailbox size of 2.7GB. When I check properties on the mailbox in outlook 2007, outlook reports 700MB. I believe the lower number to be correct since there are no "super huge" emails and I roughly confirmed the number via the web interface.

I then ran omscan and here are the results for that user, which confirms the mailbox size. But what is that "others" category on the results of omscan? That is where the problem is but I cannot find any information on what is. Any thoughts? How do I delete that.

We are running scalix 11.3

Others should be mail folders other than the INBOX / OUTBOX / Sent Items / Deleted Items.

OK. But what about my original quetion. Outlook reports 700 MB but SAC reports 2.6GB. Any suggestions on how to reconcile?

How did you determine the size? Did you include subfolders in the count, and did you do this from the mailbox root (Mailbox: User Name)? Did you include subfolders in the search?

omscan is also under the impression that the size is 2.7GB

In Outlook 2003, if you right click on the root mailbox (e.g., Mailbox -- NAME), you get a window that says "Outlook Today." At the bottom, there is an button "Folder Size." The total size (including subfolders) is 700MB. That includes every subfolder, calendar, contacts, etc.

But yet SAC and now OMSCAN reports 2.7GB. There is something that is corrupted? Can OMSCAN break down the "Other" category? I am stumped and have no way to figure this out.

That category can't be broken down. It is possible (unlikely, though) that the message store has gotten an incorrect value, although I haven't seen this in more than a year now.

1) Shut down the Local Delivery
omoff -d0 -w ld

2) Make sure the user is not signed on
omstat -u rci

3) run omscan
omscan -A -U "User Name" -S

4) Re-enable local delivery
omon -w ld

See what omscan and sxdu says now.

thanks. I tried that. Same thing. SXDU and OMSCAN report 2.6GB, but outlook reports 700 MG. I also checked Scalix web access and i counted the files, which also add up to 700. Any other suggestions?

Here is another faact. Outlook 2007 hangs everytime it is started. Outlook 2003 works fine. There is obviously something wrong with this mailbox. What can I do other than OMSCAN to figure this out. I dont even know how to troubleshoot this.

So here is what I know:

1. sxdu reports a mailbox size of 2.6GB.
2. Outlook 2003 reports a mailbox size of 700MB.
3. Outlook 2007 hangs (especially when the "send/receive" icon is displayed)

I am going to move the messages to a PST file and then wipe out the account. I cant think of anything else. Maybe there are corrupted messages. I cant find them But sxdu reports 3x the correct size.

(POSSIBLE SOLUTUION)

Postby audiotron2002 » Sun Jan 27, 2008 11:39 pm

I ran this command

omtidyu -u "XXXXXXX" -p "XXXXXXXXXXXX" -Tf -a5

It told me there was many items in the search folder. I forced delete of those items and then deleted them from the wastebasket. Now my mailboxes as reported from Outlook and sxdu match.

so can someone please explain to me what the search folder is and why I could not access it? It was 3 times the size of my actual mailbox and sxdu and outlook reported different sizes.

This is something you will need to take up with Scalix themselves, possibly via Scalix Support?
