Remote site active-active cluster

Postby dvadell » Mon Nov 26, 2007 5:48 pm

Hi,
I was asked if any linux mail server could be configured in HA configuration, but with one server in one office and the other in a remote site (i.e. far away, communicated by the internet). The servers would have about 100 normal, office users.

I thought about a couple of solutions:
* drdb won't work because a split brain situation would be hard to manage.
* cyrus imapd + imapsync may work, but I suspect that imapsync is just too slow to run it live.
* mswatch + maildir seems to be the best solution

But as being linux-based doesn't mean it has to be free (as in beer). Does anybody knows if Scalix can do this?

Thanks in advance,
-- Diego.

In theory you can try to do it with iSCSI. You will, however, need a very high-bandwidth link between the sites. Scalix currently supports active/passive the best, I think, and it is easier to manage as well. However, in that scenario I would suggest a SAN to handle the data sharing.
