hello,

first great that you launched a community version of your product =)

few weeks ago i tried to install an open xchange server, but it did not work properly. yesterday i saw that a community version of your product is available since ca one month and i downloaded it. installation was quite easy ;>

the server itself works, but i don't know how to go on now. i want to use the scalix server at home for private use in combination with ms outlook.
the server should get and send emails via my email accounts (eg b3pp0@counterstrike.de, freenet.de freemail service).
but now after i installed the scalix server, i dont know how to set up the mail transport from/to my email providers. it would be nice if anyone can help me because i'm not really used to setting up "email server", its somethink like a mystery for me =)

as distribution i use fedora core 4.

thanks for your help ahead

This type of "proxying" isn't available with Scalix.

You can use programs like Fetchmail to pull mail from other email providers and have it loaded into your Scalix mailbox. But when you send mail the mail is sent from the Scalix server and you don't have the ability to choose which address to send the mail as.

Outlook does offer the ability to include additional services in the profile for "Internet Mail", but these aren't supported in conjunction with the Scalix Connect MAPI provider.

You could consider using Outlook with an IMAP profile to access the Scalix mailbox, use Fetchmail to grab the mail from external source and then use additional accounts in the Outlook/IMAP profile to send from different addresses talking directly to the external providers. But if you are going to do that you may as well have Outlook grab the mail from your external accounts directly.

Other IMAP Clients like Thunderbird also offer the ability to configure multiple accounts.

Basically, it is the client that aggregates your mail from various sources and the Scalix server is simply one of those sources.

Hope that helps.
Cheers,
JG
