STRANGE files in /var/opt/scalix/mn/s directory

Postby kjakkanen » Fri Aug 03, 2007 5:22 pm

Hi,

We have the following files in the root of the /var/opt/scalix/mn/s directory, they are the only non-directory entries and look very strange:
---
-rw-rw---- 1 55158 scalix 455 May 24 17:44 0
-rw-rw---- 1 55012 scalix 440 Feb 26 11:53 1
-rw-rw---- 1 55096 scalix 340 Jul 19 16:09 -1
-rw-rw---- 1 55012 scalix 97 Feb 26 11:53 15
---

Already the file owner looks odd, the 0, 1 and -1 are binary files but the file 15 contains an autoreply made from one of our users???

I take it I can safely just remove these files?

Thanks,
Kimmo

Hi,

I would say so too - they look like spurious files from some UAL sessions which should not be there. The 3rd column (e.g. 55158) denotes the user (unix) id so something like omshou -U 55158 may reveal which user has had this problem that may help to nail down the root cause.

Regards,
Danny

Hi,

We transferred the whole system to a new hardware
(completely new installation of RHEL 4.5 + Scalix 11.0.4)
and copied the /var/opt/scalix over from the old system.

We removed these strange files in the process and also
cleared /var/iopt/scalix/nn/s/temp + logs. Now that the
system has been humming for a few days, the binary
file "-1" has re-appeared! With the same permissions.

Looking at the omshowu output, the account 55008
which is the owner of the -1 file is mine! But how to
be able to find out what's causing this file to be created
to /var/opt/scalix/nn/s instead of temp-dir???

Thanks,
Kimmo

Hi,

I have filed bug 15646 for this. Please provide as much details there as possible such as: client and version used, whether you have autoaction setup, attach copies of the file(s).

Thanks,
Danny

Hello,

Allright, I've posted all the information I could think relevant to the bug plus an attachment of the "-1" file from the new installation.

Do you think it could mess something if I just "rm -f" that -1 file in the middle of a running server?

Thanks,
Kimmo
