Free/Busy datastore corrupt?

Postby mephisto » Wed Aug 23, 2006 5:32 am

Hi,

we are currently using scalix 10.0.2.11 and since a few days we are having problems seeing each others free/busy data. Some colleagues seem to have an empty schedule (which can be proven wrong by opening their calendar as a delegate) while others are completely grayed out in the overview. Is there a way to regenerate the whole free/busy datastore?

The problem exists both with SCfO and SWA.

Regards,

Frederik

Freebusy information is stored in the FREEBUSY directory, so you can check for existence of the entries by doing something like an

Code: Select all

omsearch -d FREEBUSY -e S=kunz

The actual freebusy data will be encoded in binary, but you should be able to see if something is there.

you can use ommodu (check man page for details) to remove and add entries to this directory.

The actual data publish will be done by outlook and/or swa, so if you recreate the entry in the directory, you will still need to start any of the clients, add a new calendar appointment (which will trigger the resync) and then exit the client (outlook publishes triggered by time and on-exit).

If the information is actually published in the directory, one other thing to check is mailnode mapping (omshowmnmp should show correct mappings between mailnodes and fully-qualified hostnames), in particular in a multi-server environment where remote free/busy data will be accessed through the Directory Relay Service - which must be running as well.

Hope this helps,
Florian.

You can also use the command sxshowfb ( see the man page for detail s ) to view the data.

A couple of things to be aware of:

1) The free/busy data is stored as blocks of time so, if you have appointments for 10-11 and 11-12, there will be one block from 10-12.
2) The 10.x version has a bug that shows the same end time as the start time. This is fixed for Scalix 11.

Cheers

Dave

Yes, for some reason the free/busy information for some users was empty. The procedure described by Florian did the trick. Thanks guys!

OK, it wasn't so easy after all. Five minutes later the f/b infomation was lost again. As this happens for all (and only for) my notifylink test users I'm pretty sure that the information store is cleared every PIM cycle. Is this something I should be bugging Notify tech support about or is this caused by Scalix?

The PIM access for Notify is provided via Scalix Connect for Wireless. Which version of the wireless connector is installed and which version of the Notify Link Enterprise Server (NLES) are you running?

We use the NLES at Scalix as well. And in the year and a half have not seen this.

Another idea: What are the Scalix Connect versions in general use by the Outlook users?

Let us know- Art

Hi Art,

we are running NLES 4.1.0 on a German Windows 2003 with an English Outlook 2002 using SC for Wireless 10.0.0.21.
Two of the mobile users have SCfO with SmartCache installed (Beta 3). The others are using the most recently available stable connector.

Narrowing down the problem

Postby achavez » Wed Sep 06, 2006 9:18 pm

Mephisto,

Sorry for the delayed response.

Let's narrow down the problem. First lets take the NLES server out of the equation and see if the Free/Busy corruption still occurs.

We can temporarily disable PIM processing for the test user. In the NotifyLink Administration select - User Administration - select the test user - click User IT Policies button (on the right hand side). Then click Control Options (bottom of the first column). At the bottom of the page - deselect "Enable PIM Processing". Then click the Apply Changes button.

NLES will not process future PIM cycles (i.e. not update free/busy data) for this user.

Keep an eye on the Free/Busy data. Do the reported problems still occur?

Let us know the results.

Thanks - Art

Hi Art,

yes, the issue went away instantly once I stopped the PIM sync and enforced an updated to the FREEBUSY data store by creating a test entry. It reappeared after I enabled the PIM sync and the next PIM cycle was over.

Frederik,

Time to take a closer look at the NLES server.

Please send the NLPIM.log file to support attttttt scalix dotttttt com.

It can be found in the program files in the NotifyLink Enterprise Server subdir.

We can continue the conversation via email.

Thanks - Art

Hi

On one of ours server we have the same configuration.
Scalix Server (it´s still 9.4) and useing notify.
Till yesterday, one scalix user (also notify user), loses his entries in the free/busy directory.
After recreating them, with the ommodu -F delete/add command, this entries are visible again, till the notify cycle runs again. (Have to test this tommorow again, because I just readthe last track)

How was this issue solved ?

Thanks

Fix available on the NotifyLink/Scalix portal

Postby achavez » Wed Apr 18, 2007 1:15 pm

Markus,

Yes it issue was fixed in November 2006. It requires two updates on the NLES server. The updates are found on the NotifyLink/Scalix page. The specific fix is dated 11/29/2006.

http://support.notify.net/softwareUpdates.asp?SoftwareTypeSAKey=12

They are several other updates available as well you may benefit from.
