Hi.

I'd also like to second Florian's response that we've been using a NotifyLink server with 11 with no problem, have multiple clients (Blackberry & Windows Mobile) sync'ing without a problem.

The one thing that I would like to mention is that according my rep. there, NotifyLink is developing a Linux version of their server and should begin beta testing shortly. So far, it's the *only* Windows server in our organization, and I can't wait to replace it with Linux.

Overall, NotifyLink is definitely a great solution that's relatively inexpensive when compared to BES.

If you only require eMail and no Calendar/Contact sync (which is the case for me), you can also use Blackberry's Internet Mail Service and the Scalix IMAP server. This is what I'm currently using and it works fine for me.

Are you using the Redirect and Retain in Sclaix or are you using the BIS to retreive emails from Scalix?
I have setup my email account in Outlook to be IMAP, but when I use redirect and retain. I still have issues with embedded attachments in signatures.

Is there something on the Scalix server that needs to setup differently for IMAP?

Thanx

I'm using BIS + IMAPs to retrieve stuff from Scalix. I've heard a couple of times that redirect/retain does not provide the expected results, but haven't really qualified yet if this is more on the BIS side or on the Scalix side in terms of correct message format.

If you have any more insight into what BIS expects for these embedded messages, let me know and I'll see if there is anything we can do.

Thanx for the reply. I just switched it back from Redirect and Retain. We'll see how it goes.
From other conversations that I've had people seem to think that it's a Blackberry thing. But since it can work in some situations I think it's more on the BIS side than the phone side.
I will see if I can dig up any more info on this.

thanks. even if it is found to be on the BIS side, we might still want to try to do something about it if we can (though... no promises yet!) as this is a nice, cheap low-end solution for people who only need eMail on their BB device. direct IMAP access is not an option for everybody due to security restrictions and/or network situation.

It still doesn't work. Here's what I have.
BB 7130e with Sprint.
Scalix ver 11.
I have my email account in Outlook set up as IMAP.
At Sprint.blackberry.com I have it setup to go get my emails at my work address.
BIS will, every 15 minutes or so go get email.
That works OK.

But, when someone sends me an email with graphics in the message body I get the msg "application multipart mixed" and it won't display the text.

You had mentioned that it works for you. Is there something I am missing as far as setting up the server side to be IMAP?
I am not sure what else I can do from an outlook or phone aspect.

Thanx

The issue here is (according to BlackBerry Tech Support), that Outlook 2003 send XML when you ask it to send HTML. Generally, this is fine, and causes no issue, but if you have an embedded image, it will not display properly.

The workaround we've rolled out for some of our users is to redirect & retain the email, in conjunction with a milter on sendmail to strip the MIME content out of messages going to *blackberry.net. It works fine, but obviously, if the user wants to use the BIS IMAP connection, it will not work because the content will not have changed.

If you'd like instructions posted, let me know.

That would be Awesome. Thanx.
If I can get it working with Redirct and Retain that will be fine with me.
later on I may try NotifyLink but for now all I want is to see my messages :)

Thanx

Very neat. I'll give it a try. Sounds like a great option.

I have a few questions about it that would be resolved by testing it. I'll check back.

Hi, This post is very informative, however I would like some specific information. If someone can help me then please send me a private message. Best Regards,

This solution requires the user to have their laptop/desktop powered on and connected to the server in order to redirect the message. Basically, it's the same as the Blackberry Desktop Redirector.

Unfortunately.
