Wireless integration in 11 GA?

Postby caribk » Wed Dec 27, 2006 4:56 am

From looking at the release notes, except for the Mobile Web Client, I don't see anything about any improvements to wireless integration.

We currently run CE, but would definitely upgrade if wireless push mail or imap idle would function without the need for "band-aid" solutions such as Notify on Windows (looking for an all Linux solution).

What is the status on wireless push e-mail, except for the Windows based Notify solution?

Other wireless options

caribk,

We continue to explore and advance our options for an all Linux solution. Our partnership with funambol is moving forward but is taking longer than hoped. Watch scalix.com and this forum for updates.

For full feature email and PIM, Notify is the solution of choice.

If you are interested in wireless email to PDA devices. Today, you can use the iIMAP clients shipped on the device. for example Versamail on the Palm Treo 6xx series.

Im confused by your comment:

>>imap idle would function without the need for "band-aid" solutions

imap idle works flawlessly without Notify. In particular, on a treo 650 using Chatter Email (www.chatteremail.com). Also i have heard good reports from Win Mobile devices using FlexMail. Both of these email apps fully support IMAP Idle. IMAP Idle on the Scalix side does NOT require any special software. The email client on the handheld simply connects direclty to the Scalix server over port 143 (or secure 993).

i've heard that chattermail is excellent, but for treo...
for windows mobile devices flexmail is going to be the best option, but currently it is too buggy to use.. their idle implementation was released very pre-maturely so it was not a viable option...with time, flexmail and idle is going to be the solution..

however, currently i do have a problem with the scalix imap server in the default windows mobile messaging application.. sometimes(!?) header of new messages wil be downloaded but disappear immediately.. on another imap server (with courier) it works fine..
any ideas? (note, this is not a idle/push issue.. just reception period in the standard WM mail client and somewhat off-topic)

No, it doesn't. For this you would want to use a SyncML based solution like Funambol next to it which we're working on.
