LDAP Login

Postby philjohn » Thu Jan 04, 2007 7:26 am

Being somewhat of a noob when it comes to LDAP I'm having problems logging in with anything other than the sxadmin account. Looking at the documentation and the knowledgebase has me coming up empty.

Using some ldap management type programs I've managed to login with

Username: cn=sxadmin
Password: sxadmin's password

That works fine. However when I try to login using my common name

Username: cn=Phil John
Password: my password

I get an invalid credentials error from ldap.

Most of the office works on macs, and I have an aversion to Outlook ever since a nasty pst corruption incident, so the only way currently of managing our contacts is using the SWA, which we'd like to avoid, preferring instead an addon to Apple Address Book (that allows writing to LDAP), and Thunderbird's builtin ldap system.

We'd like to be able to add lots of contacts from companies we work with into the ldap directory and use it as our centralised address repo, is that possible, or should I be looking at setting up an openLDAP installation side by side with the scalix ldap server?

Any thoughts on this from those more knowledgable than me (not hard) would be much appreciated!

And as an aside, is CalDAV support still slated for Q1 2007?

Wow, do I feel dumb, I managed to work out how to login to LDAP, for anyone else who can't figure it out I used

Username: mail=[my scalix email address]
password: [my scalix password]

That just leaves the question about using the LDAP to store all of our contacts. Am I right in thinking that I can add a new root to LDAP, something like o=CompanyContacts and access that from an ldap client, or include it in searches?
