Non-standard mail address format

Postby Dunkirk » Fri Dec 22, 2006 10:44 am

I've just installed Scalix at my site. We used to use mail addresses that were equal to our login names, which was first name last initial. One of the options on installing Scalix was the inverse of that. I chose first name dot last name.

I can live with this, but I don't understand how mail runs through the system. I just have one domain, and it's not virtual; it's the same, official domain name inside and out. When old mail comes in, it will get delivered via sendmail to the user's mbox. If I create an alias of, say,

bobr: bob.ray

I get messages in the maillog that this is causing a loop. If I do this

bobr: bob.ray@domain.com

I get an email in the user's Scalix mailbox that contains the mail system error message that there's a loop problem. (Nice.)

Now maybe this is all moot. Perhaps, one, there's a way to list aliases on the Scalix accounts. (If so, I missed where, in the GUI, to do this.) Perhaps, two, I can change the system to use my original format for usernames, but I don't know where to even look for that. I'm scared of changing it by hand, since it was a setup option.

Any thoughts?

I found the way to add aliases. And the way to change the default mail address format. And the way to change the existing users over. And the way to change the login names to leave off the domain.

Thanks to all who passed over this post without responding RTFM. ;-)
